Basically this is a just a fancy variation on the Eddy theme using
multiple spreaders and a cambered sail. The spreaders are
connected using standard Eddy connectors. The spine is
6mm carbon, the main spreaders 4mm carbon and the small spreaders 2mm
carbon. The kite is approx. 2m by 1m. The sail is made of Icarex.
I used the applique technique to obtain the curved panels.
Consult the plan for further details.
The wind range is moderate to strong; the construction isn't exactly light-weight - in spite of using carbon and Icarex - due to the multiple spreaders and comparatively small sail area.
This kite caused me some grief, at first, because the little triangular tip at the bottom would invariably twist out of alignment with the main sail. I tried lots of different corrective measures, until I finally hit on a good solution: I added a line running from tip to tip around the outer edge. There is not a lot of tension on this line (to avoid bending the frame out of shape) but it is quite sufficient for the job. With this improvement a simple 2-point bridle is sufficient.
The kite now flies very reliably at a moderate angle - not a high-performance kite but quite acceptable, considering that I was almost despairing of ever getting it to fly.
